LATOURNEAU WOODS
Acquisition Project

Purpose: To acquire and protect 871 acres of bottomland hardwood habitat near Obion Creek. The tract of timber is one of the few remaining old-growth bottomland hardwood forests remaining in the lower Mississippi Valley. During peak migration, wildlife biologists have documented more than 150,000 ducks (primarily mallards, gadwall, and wigeon) using Latourneau Woods and surrounding agricultural fields. The property is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat and now becomes part of the Obion Creek WMA.

Location: The project is located near Obion Creek WMA in Fulton County approximately 5 miles northeast of Hickman, KY.

Partners: Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources
North American Wetlands Conservation Council
