YATESVILLE WMA
Cherokee Unit

Purpose:
To create several small, shallow impoundments that will be managed for moist-soil vegetation on Yatesville WMA. Each impoundment involved construction of approximately 600 linear feet of levee and installation of several water control structures. Flooding will be accomplished via run-off from winter precipitation. The Cherokee unit will serve as a refuge for migrating and wintering waterfowl. The shallow wetlands will also benefit wading birds and shorebirds. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat for waterfowl.

Location:
The project is located on Yatesville WMA in Lawrence County approximately 2 miles north of Blaine, KY.

Habitat Types: Moist-soil Wetlands

Partners: Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources
