Alabama is part of the Mississippi Flyway and provides important winter habitat for waterfowl that are produced in the Prairie Pothole Region and Great Lakes states.
In some years, Alabama has the potential to winter large numbers of mallards and wood ducks. Historically, thousands of beaver ponds scattered across the state provided reliable habitat for many species of waterfowl.
DU has worked to conserve more than 18,000 acres of waterfowl habitat throughout Alabama. Our goal is to perpetually secure habitat and the future of Alabama as an important wintering area in North America. Your support of DU will help us achieve that goal.
