Greetings, from Oregon DU!

As I close out the final months as DU State Chairman, there are several upcoming significant events that I highly encourage you to consider attending. These are for your own edification and enjoyment, and for the betterment of our organization.

First on the calendar is the National Convention in Nashville May 30-June 3. This 75th Anniversary event is shaping up to be a super celebration of seven-and-a-half decades of outstanding conservation work. Headquarted in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, truly an interesting, fantastic venue, there will be plenty of tours and various activities to keep us busy. Highlights are the reunion of DU friends, Opryland entertainment, a new and unique ladies luncheon, and of course the Saturday night gourmet dinner and fabulous auction. But the convention is not the end-all, as the diamond anniversary theme will be front-and-center at all DU events throughout the year.

The second event is the Oregon State Convention June 15-17. All fellow Oregon DUers and any other DUers from other states and provinces are invited to sign up and help us celebrate the 75th.
This year we move to the far west side and the seaside town of Garibaldi.  We'll kick off the convention Friday evening with a 2-hour coastal train ride followed by a fresh crab feed. Saturday morning will feature meetings centered on state, regional and national updates,. Saturday afternoon is available to explore a myriad of attractions and activities in the area. Saturday evening will feature the state awards ceremoney at aa delicious catered BBQ and, of course, the traditional 'Experience Oregon' silent auction. As you can see, it'll be worth your time to attend. If you don't, you'll be missed!

Third is the Western Region Leadership Training Conference in Reno this fall, August 17-19 at the Peppermill Hotel. Saturday will feature a full day packed with up-to-date leadership tips and techniques, plus the latest information from NHQ on how to enhance fundraising and event management. Any volunteers interested in moving up the leadership ranks or even just interested in more knowledge about DU should seriously consider attending this conference.  You won't regret it!  About  ten years ago I attended my first Reno conference, and it truly fueled my passion to work for the ducks.
