Four Mile Lake Project Four Mile Lake is a 215 acre marsh on a 691 acre State Wildlife Management Area. Monitoring of the lake by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources prior to restoration confirmed that the lake had little to no aquatic plant growth, exhibited extremely poor water quality, and was dominated by rough fish.

Diamond Lake Project Diamond Lake Wildlife Management Area is a 1,099 acre property owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Ducks Unlimited partnered with the DNR to improve infrastructure on the lake that will facilitate habitat management.

NAWCA - North American Wetlands Conservation Act NAWCA conserves North America's waterfowl, fish and wildlife resources while producing a variety of environmental and economic benefits. Its success is driven by partnerships involving federal, state and local governments; nonprofit organizations like DU and community groups. Every federal dollar provided by NAWCA must be matched by at least one dollar from non-federal sources. Because the program is so effective, NAWCA funds are usually tripled or quadrupled on the local level.

Ducks Unlimited Public Policy Each year Congress makes important decisions about wildlife habitat conservation programs that directly impact the long-term health of waterfowl populations. DU's office in Washington, D.C., exists to promote these programs and other wildlife-friendly legislation.

Two new wildlife management lakes for Minnesota, funding pending for conservation work

At the end of 2011, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources designated two new lakes for wildlife management. Teal Lake in Jackson County and Bolstad Slough in Cottonwood County are the 46th and 47th lakes of this type in the state. Ducks Unlimited has partnered with the DNR to complete conservation work on both lakes.

Dan Green Slough Project

Like many other large marshes and shallow lakes in north-central Iowa, Dan Green Slough has experienced a significant decline in waterfowl use during the past several decades due to poor water quality, high water levels, and exploding rough fish populations.

Four Mile Lake Project

Four Mile Lake is a 215 acre marsh on a 691 acre State Wildlife Management Area. Monitoring of the lake by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources prior to restoration confirmed that the lake had little to no aquatic plant growth, exhibited extremely poor water quality, and was dominated by rough fish.

Diamond Lake Project

Diamond Lake Wildlife Management Area is a 1,099 acre property owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Ducks Unlimited partnered with the DNR to improve infrastructure on the lake that will facilitate habitat management.

Six NAWCA projects approved in Great Plains Region

The Migratory Bird Conservation Council has approved six conservation projects that will positively impact waterfowl habitat in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. If funded and completed, these projects will conserve more than 47,000 acres. Dollars for these projects will come from North American Wetland Conservation Act grants and matching funds provided by non-federal partners.

FY 2011 NAWCA Supporters

Congress is currently discussing the appropriations for the 2011 fiscal year, including the North American Wetlands Conservation Act. The president recommended a cut to the program, so it is critical that Ducks Unlimited members and supporters contact their members of Congress to urge them to support funding NAWCA at the highest funding level practical.

During the past two decades, this popular program has conserved more than 24 million acres of prime waterfowl habitat.

NAWCA - North American Wetlands Conservation Act

NAWCA conserves North America's waterfowl, fish and wildlife resources while producing a variety of environmental and economic benefits. Its success is driven by partnerships involving federal, state and local governments; nonprofit organizations like DU and community groups. Every federal dollar provided by NAWCA must be matched by at least one dollar from non-federal sources. Because the program is so effective, NAWCA funds are usually tripled or quadrupled on the local level.

Each year Congress makes important decisions about wildlife habitat conservation programs that directly impact the long-term health of waterfowl populations. DU's office in Washington, D.C., exists to promote these programs and other wildlife-friendly legislation.
